Summer Cocktails

The farmers' markets are brimming with ripe, fragrant fruits, vegetables and herbs -- just the ingredients you'll need for cool summer cocktails.

Drinks Glass Treatment  

Ambrosia

2 oz Modern Spirits Grapefruit Honey vodka
Slice of Ambrosia cantaloupe (or other highly
fragrant melon)
1 tsp sugar
1 oz Sprite

Muddle melon and sugar
Add vodka, ice and shake
Add Sprite, stir and strain into glass
Garnish with a small basil leaf

Ginger

Mojito

1 1/2 oz Modern Spirits Candied Ginger vodka

1 ounce lemon grass-infused simple syrup

3 ounces club soda

Generous squeeze of lime

Stir and pour over ice

Garnish with lemongrass stalk and lime wheel

Citrine

1 oz Modern Spirits Candied Ginger vodka
1 oz white rum

3 fresh mint sprigs
1 tsp sugar

3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
club soda
Serve over ice

Intermezzo

3 oz Modern Spirits Three Tea vodka
1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice

1 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice

1 tsp maple syrup
Shake well

Strain into glass

Garnish with a lemon twist

Lavender Lemonade

2 oz Modern Spirits Pear Lavender vodka
2 oz Lemonade
1/2 oz cranberry juice
 

 

Splash of Sprite

Shake and serve in a pomegranate sugar-rimmed

     glass over ice

Monrovia

4 oz Modern Spirits Grapefruit Honey vodka
1 oz lychee syrup
1/2 oz sweet & sour
5 blueberries

Muddle blueberries in a shaker.
Add liquids. Shake, strain, and pour.
Garnish with a basil leaf and two speared lychees.

Tomato Water

Bloody Mary

1 1/2 oz Modern Spirits Celery Peppercorn vodka
2 oz Spiced Tomato Water [preparation below]

Shake lightly and pour into martini glass
Garnish with skewered cherry tomatoes

Spiced Tomato Water -- Serves 8

4 large, ripe tomatoes -- try green, yellow or red

   varieties for fun

Pulse in food processor with plenty of salt

Drain out liquid using cheese cloth (overnight)

Measure out 12 oz into sealable container

Add the following Spices to the container:

-  2 1/2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

-  1 1/2 tsp Tabasco

-  1 1/2 tsp  Worcestershire

-  2 tsp celery salt

-  1 tsp white pepper

Keep liquid chilled for use in cocktails
