Notes from the Fruit Lab Current  |  March 2007  |  Archives

Spring is in the air...that means more excursions to the farmers' market for the Fruit Lab. Since we only make our vodkas when ingredients are at their peak, our relationship with the seasons and local growers is crucial.

But that's good policy not just for artisan vodkamakers. Buying and eating local is the new black!

Notes

Don't order from the menu

It's not as ominous as it sounds but lately, we've been skipping the menu (and even the specials) when we go out to dinner.

We just tell the server how hungry we are and ask "what's good tonight."

By trusting the kitchen, we've been treated like insiders and got served the good stuff. (Our favorite sushi place served us their private stash of tender, raw octopus.)

It's been fun to give up a little control and enjoy not knowing what's coming out next.

Kind of like life!
