Modern Spirits Vodka
"I might be a chef by training but this year instead of cookies, Santa's getting a cocktail -- never know what a happy Santa might bring you."

RECIPE

2 1/2 oz Modern Spirits Candied Ginger vodka

1 1/2 oz Voyant Chai cream liqueur

1/2 tsp dark molasses

Shake and serve in sugar rimmed glass

Garnish with powdered cinnamon

Dear Modern Spirits:

As we sit here around the fireplace...really, a heater in the warehouse, it's amazing that a year has gone by so quickly.

We didn't camp at Lake Okeechobee or take ballet lessons. But we did (and saw) things that made us feel proud as 2006 stole away.

As we went around the country, talking sipping vodka, we realized that more and more people really cared about natural ingredients. That it was made by our calloused hands didn't scare them away either.

In New York, we noticed that bartenders were moving -- nay, running -- away from the heavily juiced, Puckered, chemical-tasting cocktails and embracing simpler, alcohol-forward drinks. Drinks you sip, not gulp.

But the coolest was when restaurants took the lead with our vodkas. Many, like the molecular Moto in Chicago, paired our vodkas with dishes on their menu. Some, like The Raymond in Pasadena, Calif., offered nightly tasting menus paired with Modern Spirits. We did the high-five...and the Modern Spirits piggy dance.

For all this and for you, our marvelous Modern Spirits Society, we rejoice this holiday, and look forward to a stellar 2007 together. Happy holidays from all of us at Modern Spirits -- the grapefruit, some celery, the candied ginger, tea, chocolate and oranges, the pears and the lavender; the truffles can't wait to see you soon; and the two of us, too.

Cheers,
Melkon and Litty
